hello!

new to the forum, just got a cve omni bus which has been taxed as plg and is declared as a motorcaravan on the v5.

currently ironing out some basic mechanical issues eg filters and fluids, not sure where is best to get parts, nor what vehicles would have compatible parts - if anyone knows anything at all about this vehicle i'd love some information!

will add pictures and more info as the (re)conversion progresses.

xx

Hi , I used to have an Omni , about two years ago is yours the one that looks a bit like an old Optare, mine was a fibre glass body and the drivers front section was about two feet higher than the rest of the bus and it had an automatic air operated shutter doors. I know that the company went out of bussiness years ago and that the engine in mine was a cummings not a mazda. I bought it because it would have been ideal as a convertion , but after finding out about the problem with parts I sold it on to a chap that had one made into a mobile chipshop for spares. Hope you are lucky enough to find a source for spares and that the convertion is trouble free.

Best regards Marshall

Not sure what an opatre is but the description sounds right...What parts were hard to find? I've managed to sort filters and belts ok, hopefully won't have to source anything more serious! Did u find any parts from other vehicles that fit?

Hi and welcome to the club, having not had the vehicle very long I did not need to search for much, although I had to replace the fuel tank which was mounted under the drivers seat near the wheel arch, I would check this out because they are prone to water ingress under the tank from the arch, and I had to have one made, due to the L shaped design no other would fit, also the mountings for the air tanks are prone to rot so again I would check them out and splash some grease around them, The bus is ideal for a convertion and I saw a couple that had been done on ebay during the time I had mine. I know the company that made them were based up north but they are long since gone . The engines have a good reputation as being bullet proof but they are thirsty, and the range is not great as the tank is not that big. All in all a good vehicle for convertion but be wary about getting spares . Best of luck with the build and hope to see it completed without too much stress,

Bye for now Marshall

Hi Trev , Yes thats the same bus as the one I had , they would be perfect if it was not for the spares issue, they are about 7ft wide and have air suspension , also a fibre glass body, which would be easier for cutting out all those storage points and vents.

All the best Marshall

Doing a Google search, it seems that some of them were "Land Rover" powered. If it has a Cummins diesel engine, then that may well be a good place to look for engine spares as there are hundreds of old Landys about and spares are not too hard to find.

Hi Vagabond , The one I had was thought to be a Cummings engine but there were differing opinions between that and Mazda, although personally I would have said Cummings. As you say its a route to follow for spares , I would be interested to know what source the filters he bought came from , as this might give an indication to the manufacturer.

Cheers Marshall

The mechanic sourced filters and belts from fram, part numbers:
Air filter1, ca5111
Air filter 2, ca3918
Fuel filter, p4179
Oil filter, ph2953a

Belts came from gates (not sure which belt went where)
6480mc
6481exl
6478 exl
6211 mc

My only internet connection is this phone so haven't had chance to research the parts to identify what common vehicles they might be found on, but apart from one of the air filters and the diesel filter (23 and 12quid) everything was under 7 each...

If you can back track those part numbers from a catalog you should get some mre information on what make the engine likely to be .

Good Luck Marshall

You've got part numbers which should make it easy. A quick internet search shows that the CA5111 is Roveer Metro, the CA3918 is Subaru etc.
Link to Fram catalogue ; here
